The live reenactment of “Niggas in Paris” wasn’t the only big thing that happened in the City of Love this weekend.
New York Knicks star Amare Stoudemire popped the question to his girlfriend of ten years, Alexis Welch, while in Paris for the European leg of the Watch the Throne tour.
The proposal took place as the couple overlooked the Eiffel Tower from their private hotel suite after a day-long private tour of the city. Stoudemire presented the mother of his three children with a million-dollar 8.5 carat diamond ring set in 18 karat white gold.
“I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place,” he told PEOPLE magazine. “I am so happy she said ‘yes,’ and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife.”
Looks like true love has conquered all for Stoudemire, who still looks to be having a good summer after the Knicks’ bump from the playoffs.
He even took to Twitter after his grand gesture: “Paris, the food, & lights were very romantic. When she said yes, it was surreal. I’m still floating. #engaged #blessed.”
The couple plans to wed in 2013.
